  1.                 The Garden Guide Version 1.0 (1992)

  4.     The Garden Guide is an informational database program that
  5. contains vital information for the home gardener.  It seems to be
  6. fairly general and not for any specific region of the US.
  7.  
  8.     I found this program to be VERY useful.  Although I do not have
  9. a garden this year, I have had them in the past.  This program has
  10. sections on vegetable, flower and herb gardens.  I thought I might
  11. get one or the other, not all three.  What a nice surprise!  There
  12. are also sections on how to choose vegetable plants, and the
  13. planning stage.  In one chart, it shows what is compatible with
  14. another in a garden.  The option of printing the display is only
  15. available in the registered version.

  17.     I think a good enhancement to this would be for more interaction
  18. from the computer user.  My idea would be for the end user to be
  19. able to actually input what he wants to plant.  Then have the chart
  20. drawn giving the vegetable names, placed strategically so they are
  21. still harmonious with each other.  The program should then be able
  22. to determine if one vegetable should be relocated, prompt the user
  23. and ask him where to place it.  The program might also, after all
  24. the input, be able to determine where one should plant their
  25. vegetables.

  27.     One of my jobs is working with our local Town Planner reviewing
  28. soil and erosion plans.  I am satisfied with the methods this
  29. program discusses on how to analyze soil and what kinds of tools one
  30. will need in order to plant even a basic garden.  With today's
  31. threat of the environment, there is also a section on composting,
  32. and the information provided is accurate and well written.

  34.     There is also a section on gardening through the winter season.
  35. If this isn't enough, there are some recipes included that you can
  36. use; one I will be trying will be the zucchini bread.  Then, the
  37. icing on the cake - a listing of catalogs is also included.  Just
  38. what I need, more sources of information on where to obtain seeds,
  39. plants, etc.  <G>

  41.     This program also has the ability to generate a worksheet to
  42. plan your garden on paper.  After you've registered the program you
  43. will have the capability to print this worksheet.  In my mind this
  44. program has it all and then some.  I highly recommend this program!
